I was cracking my head for ways to add some variety to our pasta weekend ritual. The usual of bolognese, aglio olio and creamy pasta have been done to death, and I was hoping to find something different to try out.

Turns out, I came across this video recipe by Tastemade. This seem simple enough to whip up with minimal prep time, so with some adjustments (basically to make it more kid-friendly and less of the heavy cream), I managed get this all done and ready for lunch today – in an hour (prep and cooking time).

Here’s the recipe I used for my version:


For this you will need:

1 pack minced beef

1 small onion, finely minced

1 bulb garlic, finely minced

3 carrots, cut in small chunks

1 celery stalk, cut in small chunks

1 pack brown button mushroom (the fresh variety, not canned)

1 box beef stock (I used Campbell’s)

3 cups fusili pasta

1 tbsp butter

Olive oil

Pepper to taste

Worchestershire Sauce

4 tbsp plain flour

Half pack shredded mozzarella cheese



1. In a frying pan, add butter and olive oil to brown the onion and garlic.

2. Add in the minced beef and season with Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Stir fry until the beef is nicely browned.

3. Add the fresh brown mushrooms and mix around in the pan until they soften.

4. Add in carrots and celery and stir fry for a bit.

5. Pour in the beef stock and cover the pan to let it simmer.

6. Once the stock starts boiling, pour in the fusili pasta. Cover the pan once again and let it cook until it softens.

7. Once the vegetables and pasta are cooked through, add in flour and cheese – adjust the amount until you achieve your desired consistency.

8. Turn off the flame and serve!

  • You might want to pour in 3/4 of the box of beef stock first, and keep the rest for later – in case you need to water down the consistency of the dish after adding the flour and cheese.
  • Besides minced beef, it is also alright to use beef chunks for that extra bite.
  • If you are not serving this to young kids, adding in paprika powder and red wine will give this dish the extra flavour!
  • This can easily be a dish to be served with rice as well – just omit the pasta and you’re good to go.
